Nearly 10,000 people attend Namur beer festival

Nearly 10,000 people came to enjoy the 200 beers and many other activities at the 8th edition of "Namur Beer and Terroir Capital", the organizers announced late on Sunday.

The event thus remained busy despite poor weather. The festivities ran from Friday to Sunday evening on the esplanade of the citadel.

Some 40 brewers from all over Belgium were there to present their creations. Besides the traditional blond, brown or white, many were able to enjoy gluten-free, alcohol-free, organic and yes, even vegan beer.

As in every year, a foreign host was invited to this event. This year, the famous Scottish BrewDog Brewery was in the spotlight.

"They presented a dozen beers that were literally swooped up," one of the organizers Sebastien Lergrain said." “So we can say that this international note was again highly appreciated."

The beer produced especially for the event by Bertinchamps Brewery (Gembloux), an "India Pale Ale" called B + Capital, was also a huge success.

Wanting to provide maximum entertainment for their guests, the organizers also planned a number of beer-oriented events such as blind tasting contests, or workshops for creating beer-based cocktails.

Concerts were also on the menu including the rock band Sttellla on Saturday. "They created a fantastic atmosphere and attracted many people," Lergrain commented. "This also helped counter the somewhat changeable weather."

"Overall, we are very satisfied and we already invite all beer lovers for next year’s even more successful edition," Lergrain concluded.
