A convicted murderer from Chechnya presumed to have fled back to his country after murdering a 19-year-old in Bruges is now listed as one of Belgium's most wanted criminals.
Suleyman Betelguiriev, 25, is wanted for the murder of 19-year-old Mikey Peeters, who he stabbed to death on May 2016.
The convicted fugitive stabbed Peeters six times after aggressively approaching his victim, who was walking with a friend late at night near Bruges' main square.
Authorities believe the Chechen man fled to his home country after the events, according to VRT.
A Flemish court sentenced him in absentia to 30 years in prison and handed an eight-year prison sentence to a man from Leuven named Steven Van Geel, who was deemed his accomplice on the night of the crime.
Betelguiriev is the latest criminal to be added to Belgium's most wanted list, which currently lists dozens of convicted fugitives.
