The Kasteelhotel 't Gravenhof

Have you ever dreamt of owning a piece of history? Kasteel Gravenhof, an enchanting castle nestled in a picturesque village in Flemish Brabant, is currently up for sale.

The majestic 17th-century castle is being offered for sale through shares of a company that owns 100% of the estate. The pricing of these shares will be based on the company's accounting records, considering the valuation of Gravenhof.

The property, which was built in the year 1649, boasts a rich heritage that has been meticulously preserved and cherished through the centuries. The listing, by Brabant Sotheby's International Realty, describes the property as being "more than a castle; it's a living testament to a bygone era, waiting for a discerning owner to continue its legacy."

The castle and its grounds are breathtaking: located at the end of a private lane which leads to the castle's entrance, visitors are met with a view of the expansive four-hectare park area which stretches beyond the expansive terrace.

"The property is a perfect blend of landscaped gardens, meadows, woods and serene ponds," the listing states. "This idyllic setting ensures unparalleled tranquillity, making it an oasis of peace and beauty."

Majestic beauty

The castle itself is just as impressive: an extensive restoration in 1992 breathed new life into the main building, encompassing an impressive area of approximately 2,115 m2. Every detail was thoughtfully considered to preserve the castle's historical essence while providing modern comforts and amenities.

In the reception area with its welcoming bar, visitors are greeted by a view of the six meeting and party rooms that can effortlessly be converted into a main party room. The large terrace offers stunning views of the main pond, providing the perfect backdrop for unforgettable gatherings.

Kasteelhotel 't Gravenhof offers an unforgettable experience for its guests, with 26 comfortable guest rooms, each complemented by elegant en-suite bathrooms. The rooms are designed to provide the utmost comfort while retaining the castle's unique character, creating an unforgettable stay for anyone who visits.

The castle's allure extends beyond its historical charm. With a capacity to accommodate around 200 guests for dinner or lunch and up to 300 guests for receptions, Kasteelhotel 't Gravenhof is primed for hosting unforgettable events. Whether it's weddings, corporate functions, or cultural gatherings, the castle's versatile spaces offer endless opportunities to create cherished memories.

The property comes with a coach house of approximately 267 square metres, awaiting renovation, providing an additional space for guests and with the possibility of extended private parking for up to 200 cars.

Forced to close

Recently, the management company that ran the hospitality business within the castle announced that it would be ceasing operations due to the financial difficulties of running the property as a hotel and banquet hall. Gravenhof BV announced in a recent statement that the closing of the business had nothing to do with the separate sale of the castle as a building.

"Due to the continuing difficulties experienced by banquet halls, we have reached a point where we are forced to cease our operation,” the Gravenhof BV management said in its statement. "We deeply regret the current state of affairs and denounce the complete lack of assistance from the government, which has not responded to the cry for help from our sector."

"The high fixed costs and rents associated with the operation of a castle force us to this regrettable decision after more than six months of complete and forced inactivity," the statement continued. "It is heartbreaking to see our life's endeavour lost after more than 30 years of hard work."
