The Onze Lieve Vrouw (OLV) Hospital in Aalst, Flemish Brabant, has just acquired an artificial intelligence tool to identify patients’ heart problems more quickly.
The assistance programme, called PMcardio, can detect no fewer than 38 cardiovascular conditions by analysing the data provided by electrocardiograms. In future, it should even be able to predict cardiac arrest.
Designed by researchers at OLV and developers from the company Powerful Medical, this artificial intelligence tool can be installed in a smartphone, analysing the information gathered by 12 electrodes placed on the patient’s body in just five seconds.
The application is particularly useful for care staff and doctors who are not called upon to analyse electrocardiogram results on a daily basis, such as emergency physicians or GPs. It can also help cardiologists to refine and reinforce their diagnoses.
The PMcardio programme has been available since this month in Belgium, operating in English or French.
