In the last 24 hours, the Foreign Affairs Department has found solutions for 70-odd Belgians in Rhodes as forest fires rage on the Greek island, the federal public service said on Tuesday.
These solutions were found in consultation with the Greek authorities, tour operators and several airlines, it said.
Two members of the Department's crisis team are still present at Rhodes airport, where the Greek authorities have set up a crisis centre. They are providing consular assistance to Belgians on the spot.
All Belgians contacted on the Greek islands of Rhodes and Corfu are safe and sound and consular assistance has been provided to those who need help, Foreign Affairs added.
The Department reminds Belgians to follow the instructions of the local authorities and to contact their travel organisation before departure for further information about their stay on these fire-affected islands. Advice for travellers to Greece is also regularly updated on the Foreign Affairs website.
Holidaymakers are reminded to register with Travellers Online before travelling abroad. Registrations from Rhodes and Corfu has also risen significantly in recent days, and now number 438 and 138 respectively, according to a count carried out on Tuesday.
