It's been a long time coming, but it seems the skies over Belgium will finally be brightening and summer will return from next week.
After a rainy summer so far – July had the highest number of rainy days in 35 years – and what is predicted to be a particularly grim weekend, the weather will gradually improve from Monday, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) confirmed. Temperatures will reportedly rise to 27° on Thursday and Friday.
Brussels already had a taster of the sunnier period to come, as Friday morning's rain showers made way for sunshine, but in other areas, this alternated with cloudier, stormy weather.
Saturday will initially be dry in many places, but in the west and in the Ardennes, rain will fall from the morning. In the afternoon and into the evening, rain and sun will alternate, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms. Temperatures will be lower than before, between 16 and 20°C.
The last day of the week will remain dark and cloudy, with strong winds – including gusts of up to 70 kilometres per hour or slightly more – and heavy rain or local showers, again with a chance of thunderstorms. During the afternoon, it may become drier over the west with occasional clearings, but temperatures will drop, peaking at 18°C and chances of gusts up to 70 kilometres per hour or slightly more.
At the very start of the week, some showers are still expected, but fewer than during the weekend, and not as intense. Temperatures will once again rise to a maximum of 20°C. By Tuesday, this will further increase to 22°C, however, there will still be a chance of light rain.
By Wednesday afternoon, the sun and blue skies will finally take over, and temperatures will soar to 24°C, the highest in weeks. By Thursday and Friday, the chances of precipitation will be very limited, and the expected summer temperatures of 27°C will finally arrive.
