Liège's bar scene welcomed a distinct and innovative addition as Losmoz officially opened its doors last week.
Daring to be different, Losmoz is redefining the traditional bar experience by offering a refreshing departure from the norm—a completely non-alcoholic menu. This bold move in a city known for its spirited offerings sets the establishment apart.
A Unique bar experience
The bar offers alcohol-free versions of rum, gin, and a soon-to-arrive non-alcoholic whisky, as well as a range of non-alcoholic beers, soft drinks and hot beverages. Xavier Mottin, the owner, takes great pride in this initiative, which was inspired by his own preferences.
“For a while now, I've chosen to leave alcohol behind, while still keeping my passion for festive moments alive,” he told The Brussels Times. “When I attend parties or go to bars, the drink options are often limited: mostly sodas and occasionally a non-alcoholic beer. However, the booming market for non-alcoholic beverages is undeniable. This observation led me to believe that there must be others who share my perspective.”
Thus, the idea was born to provide a space where anyone who wishes to savour a festive atmosphere without alcohol can enjoy a much broader array of choices. “My goal is to create an experience that allows everyone to celebrate without restraint while feeling comfortable and aligned with their choice,” he added.
He believes that his bar caters specifically to three groups of people that benefit most from alcohol-free habits: athletes, expecting mothers and families.
“Additionally, I'm here to welcome those who have chosen to abstain from alcohol. I provide them with a diverse selection of beverages so they can fully enjoy every moment spent here. My goal is crystal clear: to create an inclusive experience that embraces different perspectives and preferences.”
A changing industry
Nestled on rue Souverain-Pont, Losmoz's emergence adds to the neighborhoods revival at the heart of Liège. The bar's commitment to offering a unique experience has already made it a notable addition to Liège's evolving nightlife landscape. It is also an indicator of the growing trend towards a non-alcoholic lifestyle—a view that is being recognised and embraced by the hospitality and brewing sectors.
“I view the growing trend towards consuming less alcohol positively,” Mottin said. “This shift reflects a move towards healthier and more balanced lifestyles, which is encouraging."

Mottin believes that while the traditional bar and pub concept is not under threat, it is undergoing a transformation: "This could lead to an increased exploration of innovative ingredients and brewing techniques to create appealing alternatives to traditional alcoholic drinks. Ultimately, this trend presents an exciting opportunity to rethink how we celebrate and socialise, while opening new avenues for the industry.”
Consumer demands are clearly changing, with customers seeking experiences and products that reflect their values.
“While the days of the traditional bar and pub might not be numbered, their survival will depend on their ability to adapt to changing consumer preferences," The bar owner concluded.
