The BD Comic Strip Festival will return to the Gare Maritime in Brussels in September, where comic fans can attend signing sessions, meet authors and watch the traditional giant balloons.
On 8, 9 and 10 September, the BD Comic Strip Festival will be back in Brussels with a whole host of activities ranging from signing sessions to meet-and-greets. This year's festival is dedicated to manga, for which a new themed area was opened.
In honour of the 77th anniversary of the publishing house Le Lombard, a real exhibition is being organised on the past, present and future of the well-known publisher. "Visitors will get an overview of 77 years of family comics and get to know the origins of Le Lombard, its pioneers and its heroes," visit.brussels said in a press release.
The ODYSSEE exhibition will place Blake and Mortimer's comic heritage in its aesthetic, cultural and historical context, and the 'The Cat' statues in Brussels Park will also remain on display: the expo was extended especially for the festival.
Two exhibitions dedicated to contemporary alternative comic artists, German Max Baitinger and Frenchman Benoît Carbonnel, are also scheduled and a total of around 200 signings will take place. "Publishers and authors have put together a programme with lots of encounters around iconic comic book heroes," said visit.brussels.

As with previous editions, visitors can also admire the famous giant balloons in the shape of giant comic book heroes scattered around the festival grounds. This year, activities are also happening around the balloons.
The BD Comic Strip Festival is free and open to everyone. The organisation's aim is to bring as many people as possible into contact with the role the comic strip plays in the capital.
