Dutch bank Triodos made a net profit of €35.2 million in the first half of the year, according to corporate results published on Thursday.

This is the best half-year result ever achieved by the so-called 'sustainable' bank, which was founded in 1980 and has a subsidiary in Belgium.

In total, Triodos Bank generated sales of €230.7 million in the first half, compared with €174.4 million in the same period last year. This growth reflects a rise in interest rates.

In September, the company will pay out half of its first-half profit in the form of an interim dividend. This dividend will amount to €1.23 per share.

Total assets under management increased by €355 million (+1.6%) in the first half of 2023 to €22.9 billion (€22.6 billion at the end of 2022). The bank has over 700,000 clients in Europe.

"Society's increased focus on social and economic renewal, resulting from the serious consequences of climate change, biodiversity loss and social inequality, is translating into sustained demand for our banking products, which have a direct impact on financing real change," commented the bank's CEO, Jeroen Rijpkema.
