The unemployment rate in the Brussels-Capital Region fell by 0.5% in August to 14.9%, compared with 15.4% a year earlier, the regional employment office Actiris reported on Tuesday.
In contrast, the number of jobseekers rose by 1.8% (1,584 people) on an annual basis to 90,222. In monthly variation, this is an increase of 1.1% (991 people).
Youth unemployment is higher and reached a rate of 24.2% with 9,092 young job seekers in August (593 more than last year, +7%).
Actiris also received 5,372 job offers in August 2023, a decrease of 25.6% compared to the same period last year.
Across the country, the unemployment rate remained stable at 5.7% in June, falling far below the eurozone average of 6.4% and slightly beneath the EU average of 5.9%. It has remained virtually unchanged over the past year.
