Body of man missing for 52 years found on Austrian glacier

The body of a man missing since 1971 has been found on a glacier in Austria, Salzburg police announced on Monday.

The body was discovered by two hikers last week in the Hochgruberkees region, about 2,800 metres above sea level, police said.

The police assume it is a man who has been missing since 1971 and whose identity document was found with the body.

The authorities are now looking for family members in order to establish a clear identity by means of a DNA test.

The discovery comes after other human remains were found on another Austrian glacier earlier this summer. Those remains turned out to belong to a 37-year-old man who had been missing since 2001.
