Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon left on an economic mission to Vietnam on Tuesday, taking 29 companies from Flanders to the one-party communist state, which boasts one of the most dynamic economies in Southeast Asia.
"Vietnam is a country with an extremely fast-growing economy, but this growth also poses enormous challenges, which Flanders can help to overcome," said the N-VA official in Hanoi, on this second economic mission by Flanders to Vietnam in five years. Jambon is due to be received by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
These challenges relate in particular to the need for infrastructure and energy, but also to the treatment of pollution. Flanders hopes to offer them with climate technology, circular economy and digitalisation solutions.
Vietnam intends to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, but continues to rely heavily on coal, noted Jambon. He highlighted the wind energy potential of Vietnam's 3,000 km coastline.
