Registrations for the autumn vaccination booster campaign against Covid-19 held at general practitioners and pharmacies, are going more smoothly than expected in Flanders, according to doctors and pharmacists.

Numerous GPs are providing Covid-19 vaccines from now until mid-October and have already had to schedule some extra vaccination moments last weekend. For the coming weekends, they are planning to do the same.

"At the last count, 940,000 doses had already been ordered," Valerie Weekers of the Flemish Agency for Care and Health told De Standaard. But the campaign is only now really reaching cruising speed.

"The first spots for a vaccination campaign are always eagerly filled, but this shows that people are still thinking about it," said Jeroen van den Brandt, chairman of Domus Medica, adding that at least 600,000 doses of the Covid vaccine have already been requested.

For the pharmacists who have registered to deliver the autumn booster doses, registrations are also coming in quickly.

The Flemish Government has ordered a total of 2.8 million Pfizer vaccines, which should be more than sufficient to allow everyone who belongs to a priority group to get a dose.

The Covid-19 vaccine is offered free of charge at GPs and pharmacies. However, a doctor can choose to administer the vaccine during a regular consultation and charge €30. In that case, the patient will have to pay a co-payment of €4 (or €1 for people with an increased allowance).
