Following in the footsteps of Fernand Obb Delicatessen in 2018 and 2019, Brasseries Georges won the coveted title of best croquette de crevette (shrimp croquette) in Brussels on Sunday, for the second year in a row.

The fourth edition of the croquette competition, organised by the regional tourist office visit.brussels, brought together 20 of the Belgian capital's establishments.

The jury carried out a blind taste test of all the variations of the Belgian gastronomic gem, as part of the Eat culinary festival held at Tour & Taxis from Thursday to Sunday last week. Brasseries Georges, based in Uccle, once again came out on top, with Brasserie des Alexiens and Brasserie Ommegang (both in the city centre) completing the winning trio.

The croquettes were assessed on the taste, crispiness, and the quality of the prawns, among other criteria. The jury consisted of food journalists, including the winner of the first two editions Cédric Mosbeux (Fernand Obb Delicatessen), and was chaired by Comme chez soi chef, Lionel Rigolet.

To enter the competition, participants needed to own a restaurant, canteen, counter or operating food truck, be based in the Brussels-Capital Region, and offer homemade shrimp croquettes on the menu.

In addition to the three winning establishments, the competition also featured Albert, Aux Armes de Bruxelles, Beaucoup Fish, Bistro de la Woluwe, Brasserie des Alexiens, Brasserie Ma Poule, Brasserie Ommegang, Les Brasseries Georges, Café Maris, The Dominican, L'Improbable, Kroket, LPB Market & Bistro, Nüetnigenough, Les Petits Oignons, Le Rendez-Vous des Artistes, Restaurant Vincent, Schievelavabo Uccle, Todt's Café, and Wine in the City.
