KAA Gent condemns anti-Semitic chants sung ahead of match versus Israeli club

KAA Gent has condemned the anti-Semitic chants sung by some of its alleged supporters on the eve of Thursday's Europa Conference League football match against Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv, which ended in a 2-0 win for the Flemish club.

The club posted a statement to this effect on its website on Friday.

"The day before the match against Maccabi Tel Aviv, a group of young people sang an anti-Semitic song in the city. KAA Gent would like to stress that our club condemns all forms of racism," the club posted.

"With our foundation, we have been committed to inclusion and connection every day for years, through numerous social projects," it added. "This is what KAA Gent stands for. At no time during the match was there any anti-Semitism in our stadium."

According to the statement, the police have opened an investigation into the chants.
