Nearly 10,000 people took part in the weekend celebrations on 7 and 8 October to mark the 30th anniversary of Beliris, visit.brussels stated on Monday.

Beliris is the cooperation body between the Federal Government and the Brussels-Capital Region for construction, renovation and heritage restoration projects and is celebrating 30 years of being in Brussels. To mark the occasion, a number of activities were on offer in several districts and municipalities of the Belgian capital over the weekend.

Visitors enjoyed sports activities, concerts, dance classes, exhibitions, guided tours, and circus workshops in six areas of the city (Canal, Centre, Couronne, Josaphat, Jourdan and Heyvaert). A "murder mystery party" in the form of a treasure hunt also took place at the Neptunium swimming pool in Schaerbeek.

There was an introduction to tightrope walking in the Grande Halle in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, while a football tournament was played in the Allée du Kaai park in Brussels. It was also possible to blow giant soap bubbles at Place Jourdan in Etterbeek.

Since its creation, Beliris has undertaken hundreds of large-scale projects, representing a total investment of €2.6 billion. The projects have spanned a variety of fields, including mobility, social housing, green spaces, neighbourhood regeneration, culture, heritage and sport, among others.
