Train traffic on Line 50A between Brussels and Ghent resumed late Tuesday evening, after being interrupted from 7.30 p.m. by a collision on the tracks at Erpe-Mere, Infrabel reported.
The train involved in the collision was travelling from Eupen to Ostend, with almost 500 passengers on board, according to SNCB spokesman Dimitri Temmerman. The vehicle was able to set off again at around 9:50pm, after receiving an authorisation from the police.
Traffic was interrupted between Brussels and Ghent on Line 50A, the express line linking the two cities. The trains concerned were diverted via Line 50, Infrabel spokesman Thomas Baeken explained. This is the classic line between Brussels and Ghent, with a journey time lengthened by half an hour.
The situation returned to normal around 10.30pm at Erpe-Mere, allowing rail traffic to resume.
