The capacity of its six Belgian distribution centres has been expanded by a third, PostNL said on Monday. The total capacity was increased by 11,000 sqm to reach a total of 44,000 sqm.
The Dutch postal company has been working during recent months on the expansion of its distribution centres in Belgium, following the Mechelen HQ opening last year. The capacity of centres in Wommelgem, Namur, Roeselare, Vilvoorde, St Nicolas and St Truiden was increased by 11,000 sqm.
The largest distribution centre is located in Wommelgem (13,500 sqm). Vilvoorde, for instance, has a surface of 8,800 sqm, PostNL explains. This expansion has also helped increase jobs by 29%, the company ensured.
"The development of our distribution centres is an investment for the future", Managing Director of PostNL Belgium Rudy Van Rillaer ensured. "We serve the whole of Belgium through our six distribution centres, which represent an area as large as nine football fields."
Around 850 carriers travel on the roads daily. Plus, some 500 other people at headquarters and in various depots in Belgium.
