Meta is taking additional measures against the spread of illegal content and false information following the Hamas group’s attack on Israel, Facebook and Instagram’s parent company announced on Friday.
Just in the first three days following the Hamas attack on Israel and the Israeli response, 795,000 messages in Arabic and Hebrew were deleted or marked as disturbing.
During that period, there were seven times more messages in these languages deleted daily than the average for the previous two months.
Meta said it would also delete messages where presumed hostages are clearly identifiable. The search function has been deactivated for certain hashtags on Instagram, under which posts with numerous content-rule violations can be found.
Meta says it is also taking extra care with live videos.
