The perpetrator of the knife attack that killed a secondary school teacher in Arras (Pas-de-Calais) near the Belgian border on Friday 13 October posted a video claiming responsibility before carrying out his act, a source close to the case said on Tuesday, Le Soir reports.
In the video, Mohammed Mogushkov, a 20-year-old Russian national with a record of Islamist radicalisation, claimed responsibility in the name of the Islamic State terrorist organisation (ISIS), the source added. He also made a "very marginal" reference to the Hamas attack in Israel, it added.
After 96 hours in police custody in the investigation opened by the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office for murder and attempted murder, Mogushkov is due to be brought before an anti-terrorism examining magistrate on Tuesday with a view to an indictment.
The incident in Arras on Friday came almost three years to the day after the murder of Samuel Paty, a 47-year-old teacher who was beheaded on 16 October 2020 near his secondary school in Yvelines (Île-de-France).
