Following a terror attack in Brussels on Monday that left two people dead, several commercial centres and businesses have reinforced their security. The terror threat level in the capital is currently 4, the highest level since the 2016 Brussels bombings.

In Brussels, security has been strengthened at cinemas administered by the Kinepolis group, Het Nieuwsblad reports. "As long as there is threat level 4, there will be increased vigilance, and we will provide additional security for Kinepolis Brussels," a company spokesperson said.

40 locations belonging to gym chain Basic Fit are also "closed until further notice" in the Brussels-Capital Region. Elsewhere in the country, the gyms will remain open as normal.

Similar security precautions have been undertaken at the six Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels. "We have decided to remain open," the museum explained. "We have not received instructions to close. We have strengthened security."

Many schools in the capital are to remain open, but with stipulations to keep the doors of school buildings closed outside of student entry and exit times, and to avoid gatherings near the schools.

In the rest of the country, where the terror threat level has been raised to 3, some extra security precautions have been adopted.

Swedish furniture giant has increased security at its eight locations across the country, according to a company spokesperson. The Brussels shooting targeted Swedish football supporters. The company did not say what concrete measures had been taken. In Brussels, Ikea has one location in the municipality of Anderlecht.

At Brussels International Airport, located in Flanders, security has been increased but continues to operate as normal. The atmosphere is reportedly ‘calm’.
