The Autumn edition of FACTS, Belgium's largest comic con festival and pop-culture celebration, opens on 21 October at the Flanders Expo in Ghent.

The event will feature movies, series, gaming, board games, cosplay, superheroes, anime, and other pop-culture phenomena.

From 10.00 a.m. on Saturday to 5.00 p.m. on Sunday, fans will have a chance to plunge into a fantasy world where they can interact - as friend or foe, ally or controlling Deus-ex-maquina - with a plethora of characters ranging from of Hulk to Chewbakka the Wookie.

Want a chance to meet your favourite stars? Professor Xavier (James McEvoy) from the latest X-men series and Green Arrow (Stephen Arnell) will be there. So will Charisma Carpenter. Just in case the name fails to ring a bell, that's Cordella Chase of 'Buffy the Vampire' and 'Angel' fame.

Stargate fans will have a chance to try for a photoshoot with the likes of Christopher Judge (Tealc the Jaffa) while Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean, Doctor Who etc.) is also scheduled to attend.

Attendees will be able to showcase the products of their imagination at costume parades or combine their costume skills with theatrical skills at a Cosplay contest. Otherwise, they can make a beeline for the 4,000m2 hall reserved for board games, card games and role-playing games.

For those looking for the latest in apps, programmes, games, vintage pieces and the like, there will be hundreds of stalls  at the Geek Market.

The first edition of FACTS, which takes place twice a year, was held at Ghent’s Het Tonneke café in 1993. It attracted 40 fans.

The festival has grown somewhat since then. This year's Spring event, a special 30th anniversary edition held in April, had 32,328 participants, including the 700,000th visitor in the show's 30 year history.

Organisers say they are aiming to better April's tally.
