The man detained on Wednesday in Tervuren as part of the investigation into the terror attack in Brussels on 16 October has been placed under arrest by the examining magistrate.

A person linked to the terrorist attack in Brussels on Monday 16 October was deprived of his liberty on Wednesday morning, announced a press release from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

"The person concerned will be questioned by investigators on Wednesday about his possible involvement with the weapon used by Abdesalem Lassoued in last Monday’s terrorist attack," added the Public Prosecutor.

The examining magistrate will decide at a later date whether this person will be brought before him and whether an arrest warrant should be issued, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office added.

On 16 October, Abdesalem Lassoued shot dead two Swedish football fans who had come to Brussels to support their national team and seriously injured a third.

The weapon used by the attacker, an American AR-15, has become very popular over the last two decades, mainly as a semi-automatic "sports rifle". On the evening of the attack, Lassoued was also carrying two other firearms.
