A suspicious package was discovered on Friday afternoon in Antwerp’s Central Station district, which borders on the city’s Jewish quarter, local police revealed.
In response, a security perimeter was established, while traffic was suspended on Appelmansstraat, where the package was found, and on the De Keyserlei shopping street as a precaution.
The army’s bomb disposal unit was sent to analyse the package on site.
Area residents were urged to stay indoors until the security cordon is lifted.
