More rain is expected on Tuesday afternoon after a cloudy start to the day. Due to the long periods of rainfall that are expected, code yellow has once again been issued.
Weather warnings have been issued several times in recent weeks due to the many storms that have passed over Belgium. On Monday, code yellow was issued both for heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind. It will once again be in place on Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 until 20:00.
"In the afternoon, an intense and structured area of showers will move from west to east across the country, with rain that could reach 20 l/m² or more over a 6-hour period in several places," the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) stated on its website.
The RMI noted that a westerly to southwesterly flow to the south of a depression moving from Denmark to the Baltic Sea will carry mild and unstable maritime air over Belgium. "During the day, with the passage of a high trough, instability increases significantly, resulting in the development of intense rain and possibly thunderstorms."
Overall, the north of the country seems to escape the most intense showers: code yellow is issued for the entire country, excluding the coast and Antwerp. However, the western part of the country, which has been tormented by heavy rain and floods for the past week, will likely see more precipitation.
