Liège Airport's board has approved a major update to their masterplan for 2023-2040, aligning €500 million for investment and aiming to double their flight and staff numbers, Sudinfo and L'Echo report.
The strategic plan seeks to transform the airport into a multimodal hub connected by rail, water and air. The €500 million will be invested across various stages, primarily to expand the northern zone facing the terminal.
This area will accommodate up to 15 additional large aircraft parking spaces complete with three new unloading warehouses of 12,500 m2 each, lined up for construction by Liège Airport for letting.
In addition, the airport plans to construct a maintenance hangar for large aircrafts, namely the type B747-400, capable of housing two at a time, General Manager Laurent Jossart told Sudinfo.
To finance these investments, the airport plans to use the revenue generated by its operations (landing charges, space rentals etc.) and bank loans. "We will be fully self-financing," says Laurent Jossart.
