The Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) has issued a yellow alert for slippery conditions across the country, excluding the Coast and Hainaut province.

From Wednesday morning, the warning applies to the provinces of Liège and Luxembourg, extending to the remainder of the country by early evening.

However, in Brabant’s two provinces and Brussels Region, the heart of the country, the warning will end at night start. Elsewhere, it remains in effect until Thursday morning.

Weather forecasts suggest light snowfall in the High Ardennes in the afternoon, while other regions will also grapple with patches of frost or ice, especially in Flanders.

The Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic (Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer) carried out its first autumn road-level salting operation on Tuesday night.

The agency's gritters treated certain motorways, regional routes, and cycle paths in the provinces of Flemish Brabant and Limburg. Around 250 tonnes of salt were used, according to spokesperson Katrien Kiekens on Wednesday morning.
