The Belgian Government has approved additional funding for humanitarian aid to Gaza’s civilian population, announced Minister for Development Cooperation Caroline Gennez on Friday.
An additional €2 million will be utilised to alleviate the conflict’s impacts on civilian populations, primarily through support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
Also, Belgium has agreed to cover the expense of B-FAST missions in Gaza and Libya, following a proposal by Foreign Affairs Minister Hadja Lahbib. The Foreign Affairs Department’s expenditures will be covered by drawing rights from the interdepartmental provision.
As a response to the Middle East crisis, Belgium has decided to send Gaza’s population 760 tents, 4,300 sleeping bags, and 3,100 hygiene kits through European coordination. The total cost of these items amounts to €338,700.
Libya, meanwhile, was struck by Storm Daniel which led to massive floods and the destruction of two dams. In response, Belgium via B-FAST has pledged to provide 3,900 hygiene kits, 500 shelter tool kits, 700 sleeping bags, and 240 family tents, totalled at €145,300, according to the Federal Government.
