French toll roads will be revising their charges from 1 February 2024 with a roughly 3% increase to compensate for inflation – which comes down to about €2 extra for a single journey from Belgium to the south of France.
In February 2025, however, the increase will double: to between 5% and 6% due to a tax on motorway concessions, which the companies would then pass on to network users, La Capitale reports.
This would mean an increase of almost 10% in just two years. In concrete terms, the price of tolls for a journey from Brussels to Marseille, for example, would cost €67.5 instead of the current €61.90.
Companies, however, are already planning to appeal against this new tax. If they win, the increase for motorists could remain limited.
