Belgium’s joint bid to host the 2027 Women’s Football World Cup with the Netherlands and Germany will compete with two others, FIFA has confirmed on Saturday.

The other options are from Brazil, and a dual bid from Mexico and the United States.

While many expected the North American/Mexican bid to be withdrawn due to the US, Mexico and Canada hosting the Men’s World Cup in 2026 and Los Angeles hosting the Olympic Games in 2028, this did not occur.

South Africa, on the other hand, pulled out of the selection process on 25 November, expected to submit a more prepared bid for 2031.

The final decision for where the next Women’s World Cup will take place, will be reached through a vote at the next FIFA Congress on 17 May 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The United States has previously hosted the Women's World Cups alone in 1999 and 2003, and Germany in 2011.

The most recent Women’s World Cup in summer 2023, was held in Australia and New Zealand. Spain won it, but the victory was marred by the controversy of the Spanish head coach’s unwanted kiss of team player Jenni Hermoso during the victory celebrations.
