Bankruptcies in Belgium fell in November but remained at the highest levels in nearly a decade, according to a recent report by Statbel, Belgium's official statistics office.

November saw the number of bankruptcies rise to 900: a 12.2% decrease relative to October but a 16.3% increase compared to the same month in 2022.

Such a high number of bankruptcies has not been recorded in November in Belgium since 2013, when the total number of insolvencies reached 906 for all of Belgium.

In Flanders, bankruptcy numbers have not been this high in November since 2012. Both Wallonia (239 compared to 232) and the Brussels-Capital Region (247 compared to 177) displayed higher bankruptcy rates than any November since 2018.

These bankruptcies resulted in the loss of 2,108 jobs in November, a 22.1% drop from October 2023, but a 12.9% rise since November last year.
