Average social  tariffs for natural gas and electricity will go up by over 9% in the first quarter of next year, the Commission for Electricity and Gas Regulation (CREG) announced on Tuesday.

The price of natural gas and heating, inclusive of VAT, now stands at 5.371 cents/Kwh,  an increase of 0.469 cents compared to the last quarter of 2023. It will increase by an average of 9.6% in the first quarter of 2024.

Electricity’s monohourly tariff, including VAT, is currently 23.441 cents/Kwh, 1.873 cent more than it was during the corresponding period of last year. It is scheduled to go up by 9.3% in the next quarter, the CREG stated.

Early this year, electricity was more than 28.5 cents/Kwh, whereas gas cost just 3.729 cents/Kwh.

The social tariff is a reduced price for certain categories of people or households with modest incomes and those residing in social housing. It is applied to new beneficiaries every quarter and remains in place until the end of the calendar year.
