A record-breaking 4.98 million people visited Brussels museums in 2023, 20% higher than in 2022 and slightly above pre-pandemic figures.
Visitor numbers each month exceeded those of the corresponding month in 2022, and peak times were during spring, summer and the end of the year.
The Brussels Museum Council was "delighted" with turnout in 2023, and attributes high attendance to the re-opening of Art Nouveau masterpieces Maison Hannon and Hotel van Eetvelde.
"The year of Art Nouveau was also a resounding success," the Council told Belga News Agency. Brussels was the capital of Art Nouveau in 2023 and sold more than triple the number of Art Nouveau Passes in 2022, resulting in over 13,300 visits to exhibitions last year.
Sales in Brussels Museum Passes also enjoyed peak success, with 19,742 sold compared to 18,364 in 2022.
