After four years of decline, automotive group Renault recorded a 9% increase in 2023, selling 2.235 million vehicles, according to a communication released Wednesday.

Renault credits its "strategy of strong and complementary brands" for this reversal, highlighting that three of its brands are significantly growing.

Renault is currently the most-sold French brand globally and has boosted its sales by 9.4% with 1,548,748 vehicles sold. This followed a 14.6% slump in 2022.

Good results were observed in Europe, where the carmaker saw a 19.3% increase in volume, outperforming the market’s growth rate of 13.9%.

As a result, Renault clinched second place in European market share, a significant improvement from their fifth position in 2022.

Renault Brand’s Director, Fabrice Cambolive, attributes the success to several vehicles, including the Renault Austral, Espace E-Tech, and Mégane E-Tech. The latter represents 2.2% of the European electric market, which he describes as an "exceptional performance."

Cambolive is looking forward to the launch of six new vehicles in 2024, notably the anticipated Scenic and all-electric Renault 5 E-Tech."The idea is to maintain this level of performance" and continue the brand’s electric expansion with these fresh inclusions, he emphasised. Renault expects to transition its entire range to be fully electric within six years.
