A broken down cherry picker vehicle led to the closure of the Rogier and Botanique tunnels heading towards Midi on Friday morning.

The tunnels were able to reopen around 08:50 after the vehicle was repaired. Significant queues were observed this morning between Basilique and Madou due to these closures.

By 08:00, long queues stretching back to the Koekelberg Basilica had formed as a result of the incident.

Journey times between the Basilica and Madou have increased by nearly half an hour due to the traffic jams caused by these closures, according to the regional agency.

Surface traffic lights have been adjusted between Yser and Madou to increase capacity and reduced at the Basilica to slow the city entry, said Camille Thiry, spokesperson for Brussels Mobility.
