The animated film 'Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds' opened the Youth Film Festival Antwerp on Sunday afternoon, Belga News Agency reports. The 36th edition of the festival runs until 18 February.

The Flemish voice cast of 'Sirocco en het koninkrijk van de wind' kicked off two weeks of youth films at Kinepolis Antwerp on Sunday. Young people up to 18 years old can also go for screenings, workshops, virtual reality and gaming at numerous locations in and outside Antwerp.

Under the banner 'Youth Film Festival on tour', there will be screenings in Bruges, Ghent, Hamme, Kortrijk, Leuven and Roeselare this year. There is also the 'inflatable cinema', which brings youth films to parks and squares in the city of Antwerp. Local residents can then watch a screening for free.

'Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds' follows two sisters who get lost in the wonderful world of their favourite book. The Belgian-French production can still be seen in Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, Hamme, Roeselare, Leuven and Kortrijk during the festival. Whether the film wins the top prize will be decided by a children's jury and an international jury.

The opening party will be followed by a week for school screenings. From the autumn holidays onwards, the general public can discover the films.
