NATO’s Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg has urged European countries to increase weapons production to support Ukraine and prevent a prolonged war with Moscow.
Just days before a meeting of NATO defence ministers in Brussels on the 15th and 16th of February, Jens Stoltenberg emphasised, “We need to rebuild and enhance our industrial base more rapidly, in order to increase deliveries to Ukraine and also replenish our own supplies. This means shifting from a slow, peace-time production to a rapid, conflict-time production.”
Speaking to German daily Welt am Sonntag, Stoltenberg also noted that while there is no immediate military threat against a NATO member, the Kremlin is regularly issuing threats against NATO countries.
Referencing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago, he highlighted that “peace in Europe is not guaranteed,” underscoring the importance of protecting NATO member countries.
“As long as we invest in our security and stand together, we will continue to deter any aggression,” he stated.
Stoltenberg warned, “NATO does not seek war with Russia, but we must prepare for a confrontation that could last decades.”
