While an agreement has been reached between the protesting farmers and the Flemish Government, those in Wallonia have started new protests on Friday morning by blocking several motorways in the Liège province.
Following the agreement reached by farmers' organisations with the Flemish Government late on Thursday night, Flemish farmers lifted their blockades. But the protest in Wallonia is by no means over: in Liège, farmers in tractors have set up filter blockades on motorways in several places.
As Flemish farmers did in Ghent over the past 24 hours, their Francophone colleagues want to use their actions to put pressure on consultations with the Walloon Government. On Friday afternoon, the so-called chain consultation with the Economy Ministry (meaning, at the federal level) on supermarket pricing will take place.
Following their earlier protest, Walloon farmers had announced on Saturday that they would no longer take to the streets with tractors, to give the consultation between the government, the agricultural sector and the distribution sector a chance. However, they have now seemingly gone back on that promise.
Where exactly?
On Thursday evening, the town of Visé already reported on Facebook that farmers planned to demonstrate on the E25 motorway today, which could cause planned traffic disruption between 06:00 and 16:00.
The police also announced on Facebook that filter blockades might be held today at the Loncin interchange, which connects the E40, E42 and E25 motorways.
Those wishing to check the situation on Walloon roads can do so on the Walloon Government website.
