A Belgian woman has died while on holiday in the French Riviera. Her husband is suspected of having killed her and has been arrested and taken into police custody.
Local police stated that the woman died under suspicious circumstances while on holiday in Le Var in southeastern France.
"A woman of Belgian nationality was found dead in a flat rented during a holiday, in the presence of her husband, who was taken into custody because of suspicious traces found on the victim's body," the Public Prosecutor's Office told AFP.
According to a police source, emergency services alerted the police to the death at around 05:30 on Tuesday morning due to marks on the victim's wrists and neck as well as traces of blood on the bedsheets.
The same source added that the initial investigation has established that an argument between the couple took place on Monday evening. The couple's identity has not been revealed.
