An apartment building on Fruithoflaan in the Antwerp district of Berchem was targeted in an explosive attack overnight, local police have confirmed.
A powerful pyrotechnic device was detonated by the perpetrators, who also spray-painted a message on the building's façade. No injuries were reported from the incident. However, there was considerable material damage: the communal front door of the building was badly damaged, and several windows were smashed.
The army's bomb disposal unit DOVO and the judicial police's laboratory undertook initial investigations. The police have launched an investigation. This will establish if the attack has any connections to the city's drug scene.
