The Ministry of Health has lowered the threat of respiratory infection level from yellow to green.
The Health Ministry announced the change in level on Thursday, as significantly lower respiratory infection rates have lessened the burden on healthcare workers. After a spike at the end of last year, the alert had already reduced the level to yellow in February, and this latest change in status marks the end of the government body's 'winter plan'.
However, the Ministry warns that infection is still possible and advises people to take measures that safeguard vulnerable individuals such as hand-washing, coughing into a tissue or elbow, staying at home when sick and wearing a mask when experiencing flu-like symptoms.
Belgium introduced the colour-coded system during the Covid-19 pandemic and measures are informed by challenges the healthcare system experienced at the time. Each colour comes with a set of specific recommendations.
