Three people were injured in a major brawl that took place on Wednesday evening in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek. None of the victims are in mortal danger.
Police officers of the Brussels North zone (Schaerbeek/Evere/Saint-Josse-ten-Noode) were called to the scene of a major fight in the areas of Rue Marbotin, Chaussée de Haecht and Rue du Foyer Schaerbeekois, to the north of Parc Josaphat, at around 20:30 on Wednesday night, the zone's spokesperson Audrey Dereymaeker confirmed.
"Upon arrival, it became clear we were dealing with a brawl involving approximately 15 individuals," she said, adding that three people were injured as a result of the major fight that took place. Among the three victims one suffered a head injury but none have life-threatening injuries. Still, all three were transported to hospital for a check-up.
The cause and circumstances of the brawl are still unclear. Police are continuing to investigate the dispute and have interviewed several witnesses and analysed footage from surveillance cameras. At this stage, no information is available on potential arrests.
The police zone did however say there was no clear link to recent tensions between the Kurdish and Turkish communities, which first arose in Limburg on Sunday and then again at a pro-Kurdish demonstration on Place du Luxembourg on Monday.
