Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extends Easter greetings to fellow countrymen and to all Christians on social media whilst referring to the ongoing two-year war against Russian armed forces.

"May all prayers for protection against evil be heard today," he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Zelenskyy added that Easter is "a festive day that reminds us of the power of the spirit that will not allow darkness to win."

His address follows a fresh surge of Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine.

"No day or night passes without the terror of Russia attempting to end our lives," Zelenskyy said. "But we defend ourselves, we resist, our spirit does not give up and knows evading death is possible. Life can prevail."

In his English-posted message, the head of state wished for "faith to give strength to those protecting their homes and for world peace to draw nearer."
