Brussels' most unique sports event – the Liantis Urban Trail running race – is returning to the capital in June with a new start and finish location and new buildings through which runners pass on the route.
The Liantis Urban Trail allows participants to explore cities across Belgium in a new way. The event, which is more than a running race, opens the doors of prominent buildings and monuments in the city to sports enthusiasts. In recent editions, the route passed through the Royal Palace as well as the Brussels Beer Project store in Rue Antoine Dansaert and Cinema Galeries.
For this year's edition on Sunday 23 June, the organisers confirmed a revamped course with a new start and finish location. Participants will also visit new locations.
"This year, the start and finish will be at the Tour & Taxis site," the organisers stated. "From there, runners can choose a six- or 12-kilometre route through the historic centre of the Belgian capital."
Runners will pass through the refurbished Gare Maritime, Europe's largest freight station at the beginning of the 20th century which now hosts a wide range of events and conferences, as well as Brasserie de la Senne, which is at the heart of the revival of craft beer and is also located on the Tour & Taxis site, as well as Belgian Beer World in the renovated Bourse building. The headquarters of Liantis is also on the route for the first time.
The full route, including additional top venues, will be revealed in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, registration for the event opened on Tuesday. The event is also held in Ghent (Sunday 20 October), Antwerp (Sunday 17 November) and Mechelen (Saturday 14 December) – the perfect occasion to explore Belgium's other major cities.
