While far-right party Vlaams Belang saw an unexpectedly high rise in support in Belgium for all three elections (Flemish/Brussels/Walloon Region, Federal, and EU), the rise of far-right parties was seen in the election results across Europe.
In France, the right-wing populist and nationalist Rassemblement National party (RN, previously the National Front) led by Marine Le Pen won the European elections by 0,9%. It came out at the top of the European elections, beating President Macron's centrist party La République En Marche (23,3% vs 22,4%).
In Italy, the extreme right Lega Nord of Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini won the European elections on Sunday with a score between 27 and 31%. The anti-system party Five-Star Movement (M5S) got a score between 18.5 and 23%, both beating out the Democratic Party which scored between 21% and 25% across the country.
In the United Kingdom, Nigel Farage's Brexit Party won the elections on Thursday, ahead of the pro-European Liberal Democrats and outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May's Conservative Party with 31.7%.
The Hungarian national conservative party Fidesz, of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, won the European elections with an overwhelming majority. According to the electoral commission, Fidesz won 52.1% of the vote, compared to 16.2% for the more leftist Democratic Coalition.
