The crew of Quentin Dupieux’s "Fumer fait tousser" (‘Smoking makes you cough’) had their turn on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday night, at the official projection of the feature film.

The cast of the Power Rangers-type comedy, produced jointly with the Belgian film company Artemis, includes Gilles Lellouche, Vincent Lacoste, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Alain Chabat, Blanche Gardin and Benoît Poelvoorde.

This full-length feature film is the 10th by Quentin Dupieux, known for his crazy, surrealist creations. It centres around five enforcers, the ‘Tabac force’ (Tobacco Force) who are ordered to go into retirement to strengthen the cohesion of their group, which is coming apart. Everything goes well until the Evil Emperor decides to wipe out Planet Earth.

To produce “Fumer fait tousser,” which was originally designed for an online platform, Quentin Dupieux handpicked a number of actors he’d already worked with, such as Alain Chabat, whom he had previously directed in “Réalité,” and Benoît Poelvoorde, who played a policeman in his film “Au Poste.”

Poelvoorde was not in Cannes for Saturday’s projection.
