Production company De Wereldvrede, which produced the TV series "Albatros" alongside Canvas, announced on Thursday, 2 June, that the series has been sold to the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), the public-funded channel in the United States.
"Albatros," a tragicomic fiction series, follows ten obese people who participate in a slimming camp in the Ardennes. The show was written by director Wannes Destoop and actor Dominique Van Malder.
After the production company De Wereldvrede's latest deal with PBS, the series will now be broadcast across the United States to millions of Americans, given that the state broadcaster has 350 affiliated local TV stations.
Previously, the series had been sold to video on demand platforms in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The series was also acquired by the public broadcaster of the Czech Republic and Wallonia.

Last year, the series won the Prix Europa media prize for best fiction series which can be partly credited for bringing so much international attention to the Belgian show, Belga News Agency reports.
"These sales are really very special to us as makers, because they confirm the international appeal and universal themes of the series," Destoop said in a press release.
In Flanders and the Netherlands, the series is available on Streamz and Netflix.
