One of the world’s most beautiful hotels occupies the former central post office in the heart of Ghent.
The hotel 1898 The Post opened in 2017 in the upper floors of a Neo-Gothic building on the Leie waterfront. It was recently voted one of the 500 best hotels in the world by readers of Travel and Leisure magazine.
The hotel is decorated in a dark and moody style that evokes the building’s mock Gothic roots. Its 38 guest rooms have been given quirky names reflecting the building’s former purpose.
You can stay in the small Stamp Room, the slightly larger Postcard or the luxurious Envelope. Most of the rooms have spectacular views of the city.
