Belgian documentary shortlisted for the Berlinale short film competition

The documentary 'Kaalkapje' has been selected for the short film competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, the Flemish Audiovisual Fund announced on Monday.

The Berlinale takes place from 15 to 25 February.

'Kaalkapje' (Baldilocks) is Marthe Peters’ graduation project from the KASK School of Arts. She both wrote and directed the film, which earned her the VAF Wildcard Documentary Award in December.

The documentary explores Peters’ battle with cancer during her childhood - a time she cannot recall - through the lens of her father’s camera.

This isn’t the first time a VAF Wildcard winner has been selected for the Berlinale. In 2021, 'Nanu Tudor' by Olga Lucovnicova was awarded the Golden Bear for best short film.

In addition to 'Kaalkapje' being shortlisted for the short film category, the selection of Mascha Halberstad’s animated film “‘Vos en Haas redden het bos” had already been announced.
