Ahead of the new municipal elections in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode on 9 February, the Brussels Minister for Local Government has announced several measures to ensure a smooth process.
The regional public service will provide direct training to presidents and secretaries of polling stations, with a particular focus on proxy votes, Bernard Clerfayt’s office stated on Wednesday.
Proxy votes, notably high in October in Saint-Josse, were the reason why the elections were invalidated. A significant portion of these proxies showed signs of irregularities.
Special attention will therefore be given to proxy voting in the new election. Polling station presidents will be in direct contact with the elections department of the regional public service.
Each polling station will also be equipped with technical reserve material, and a recount of printed ballots will be conducted if there is a discrepancy of at least 10 units between registered voters and confirmed votes.
